The critically-acclaimed 30 minute film will be followed by a 45 minute entertaining and insightful recorded Q&A. Hosted by Mark Kermode, Pedro and Tilda discuss the inspirations they drew on for the film, how The Human Voice fits within the ‘Almodóvar oeuvre’, and what Pedro will be making next – including a great surprise for Tilda. Recorded under lockdown conditions, the discussion features visual references and clips to create a dynamic and interesting companion piece to the short film. One of Spanish cinemas most beloved names, Pedro Almodóvar returns to screens with his English-language debut, a timely and sublime adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s solitude-shaped play The Human Voice. Starring the chameleonic presence that is Tilda Swinton, Swinton plays a woman caught in the midst of waiting: for her former lover to return to collect his things, and for her former lover’s dog to realise that, much like her, he’s been abandoned by his master. Woman and dog find common ground in the facts of their loneliness, and Swinton’s character dwells on her inability to understand the complicated nature of human relationships. With Almodóvar’s characteristically vibrant style and Swinton’s ever-reliable skill, this is a two-hander not to be missed.
