This page explains the current facilities for people with disabilities, and is intended to assist you in planning your visit.
Advance booking is always a good idea so that our staff can readily provide assistance if required. We will be pleased to reserve wheelchair spaces or seats for any particular part of the auditorium if this is helpful. Please contact us in advance.
Access for Customers with Limited Mobility
All areas of the cinema are accessible to customers with limited mobility, including wheelchair users. Each of our four auditoria has a choice of wheelchair spaces, in both the front and back rows of each screen.
The ground floor houses the Box Office, kiosk and disabled toilet. The auditoria and bar are on the first floor, which can be accessed via a lift located next to the Box Office. The Box Office, kiosk and bar all have adapted counters and accessible levels for transactions.
Visually Impaired Customers
Guide dogs are welcome. If you wish to take your dog into a performance, please let us know when booking so that we can arrange an aisle seat. Alternatively your dog can be cared for by a member of staff for the duration of the performance. Our staff will be happy to provide drinking water for your dog. Please give us 24 hours notice if possible.
Our stair rails have bumps on the side to indicate the number of steps approaching each level. Three bumps mean that you are on the third step from the landing, two that you are on the second step, and one that you are on the final step.
Large-print menus and film schedules are available on request.
Audio descriptive headsets are available. The audio description facility is available on selected films. Please call 0871 902 5740 to check availability.
Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Customers
There are induction loop facilities in the screens. Please turn your hearing aid to the T position. Certain performances carry subtitles, and these are clearly indicated in the programme.
There are limited spaces available for Blue Badge holders at the rear of the cinema. For other parking information please visit the Newham Council webpage.
In the Event of a Fire
If you are on the ground floor you will be helped out of the building by staff. If you are on the first floor, please make your way to the disabled refuge at the end of the corridor furthest from the bar. The route is labelled with the sign Refuge. Rescue authorities are well briefed on the layout of the building and the existence of the refuge, and your rescue will be a priority.
There are fully accessible adapted toilets on both the ground floor and the first floor. There is an emergency call-point in each disabled toilet should you need to summon a member of staff. There are also cubicles adapted for ambulant disabled customers in both the gentlemen’s and ladies’ toilets.
Customers who have a disability that means that they need a companion with them in the cinema can bring them to any Picturehouse Cinema for free.
You can sign up for a Carers Card which will automatically discount one of your tickets, and which you can use – without a booking fee – when buying tickets in person, online or by telephone. The card will also mean that you don’t have to explain your situation every time you visit the cinema.
Ticket prices for customers with disabilities are according to their circumstances (e.g. adult, Member or student); the free ticket applies to their companion. The card must be used in conjunction with a paid-for ticket or a Member’s free ticket.
All customers for 3D screenings – including those using free tickets – will need to buy a pair of 3D glasses. These can be reused if you keep them.
Signing up for a card is not required, but we hope it will make buying tickets easier. It is personal to you, and may not be used by other people.
To apply for an annual Carers Card, visit any of our cinemas, call us on 0871 902 5747, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Join us before or after your movie in our relaxing first-floor bar, and settle into a comfy sofa or armchair to enjoy one of the tasty hot and cold drinks on offer!
All our teas and coffees are certified fair trade and organic, and are complemented by a similarly responsible range of snacks and nibbles to help you while away the day or early evening.
As the night goes on, indulge in something from our fantastic selection of wines, locally brewed Meantime beers, or other speciality beers, ciders or stouts.
Look out too for our regular events, including film quizzes and acoustic music, which all help to make the bar at Stratford Picturehouse a great place to spend some free time.
