In Cord Jefferson's hilarious directorial debut, Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

American Fiction is based on Percival Everett’s 2002 novel Erasure, a scathing look at racism in the publishing industry. Fresh from its win this year in the Best Adapted Screenplay category at the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs, we’re delighted to welcome author Percival Everett for a short Q&A after the film.

This event has been programmed alongside ‘Percival Everett in conversation with Caleb Azumah Nelson’, which takes place at Brixton library after this screening. Percival will be discussing his latest book James.

This event is presented by Dark Matter.
