Emerging from a tough childhood by channelling his aggression in the ring, middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro) ascends through the ranks to achieve his first shot at a boxing title. But his drive for the championship, and his paranoia, jealousy and rage, begin to destroy his marriage, his deepest friendships, and the career he fought to build.
