Support the NHS with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and 'Not Family, But Blood' | Our partners

Join the bid to help save lives

The Picturehouse Team

04 Nov 22

To celebrate the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we've joined forces with Marvel Studios and NHS Blood and Transplant to support the Not Family, But Blood campaign, aiming to encourage more people to become blood donors, especially those of Black heritage.

Not Family, But Blood highlights that Black communities have the unifying power to provide life-changing blood donations. This thought is amplified in the people of Wakanda, who unite in the name of supporting and protecting their community.

The campaign—which was launched in early October—has already seen an incredible response from the public, with over 4000 new donors of Black heritage coming forward to register. There is an urgent need to meet the increasing demand to treat conditions such as sickle cell. Hospitals now need 250 donations every single day to treat sickle cell, compared to 150 five years ago.

How we're getting involved

Picturehouse is very pleased to be playing host to a blood testing pop-up at Hackney Picturehouse on Saturday 12 November. At this pop-up, you can find out your blood type and who your blood could save. It only takes a few minutes, and then you'll be able to sit back and enjoy Black Panther: Wakanda Forever afterwards.

Simply pay us a visit at our participating cinemas – you'll find NHS team members waiting to assist you and answer any questions you might have.

For more information about Not Family, But Blood, head over to blood.co.uk.

Competition: Win tickets to our preview!

We're hosting an exclusive preview screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at Hackney Picturehouse on Thursday 10 November for specially invited NHS Blood and Transplant supporters including patients, donors and partners.

You could be in with the chance to join us as we watch the hugely anticipated film before anyone else. All you need to do is answer the following question: What metal is Wakanda's most precious resource?

A) Platinum

B) Uru

C) Vibranium

D) Pantherium

For a chance to win, simply email [email protected] with WAKANDA FOREVER in the subject line, and let us know what your answer is.

The competition closes on Tuesday 8 November at 10.00.
