Billy Batson is back! After taking on the mantle of the champion Shazam and defeating the nefarious Dr Thaddeus Sivana in 2019's Shazam!, the teenage hero returns in David F. Sandberg's new sequel, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, to ward off a new threat to Planet Earth.

After being bestowed with a superpowered alter ego by a mysterious wizard (Djimon Hounsou), Batson (played by Asher Angel as a teenager and Zachary Levi in his superhero form) is struggling with a crisis of confidence.

Whereas the likes of The Flash, Aquaman and Batman make saving the world look like a breeze, Billy's not sure if he's making the most of his superhuman abilities since they were given to him.

It doesn't help that his foster siblings Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer/ Adam Brody), Eugene (Ian Chen/Ross Butler), Darla (Faithe Herman/ Meagan Good), Pedro (Jovan Armand/D.J. Cotrona) and Mary (Grace Fulton) seem to be taking to their own superhero identities with ease, nor that he has to balance his cosmic responsibilities with the trials and tribulations of adolescence.

Unfortunately for Billy, things are about to get a whole lot more complicated as his newfound identity has drawn the attention of The Daughters of Atlas, a group of goddesses who aren't too pleased that their powers have been "stolen" by a group of children who are taking their gifts for granted.

This new threat will require that Billy and his adoptive family team up against an enemy like nothing they've faced before. Combining ambitious action scenes with a snappy sense of humour and plenty of heart, this sequel builds on the fresh thrills of Shazam! while upping the stakes, as Billy and his siblings try to find a way to balance their school work with protecting the world from harm.

Featuring a stacked ensemble cast that includes Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and up-and-coming star Rachel Zegler (previously seen in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story), this new entry into the DC cinematic universe promises an exhilarating new adventure with plenty of tricks up its sleeve to keep all audiences entertained.

Facing off against giant dragons and a trio of immortal beings with a powerful new weapon, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will be Billy's biggest endurance test yet. After all – being a teenager is hard enough without having to save the world.   Hannah Strong
