Picturehouse's new reDiscover season invites you to delve deep into the mind of one of Hong Kong's filmmaking masters: you'll find sumptuous, simmering storytelling, full of atmosphere and intimacy.

Seven of the best from Wong Kar Wai arrive at our cinemas soon – beautifully restored, and perfect for the big screen. Don't miss them.

The season starts from 8 August with the kinetic, hyper-cool thriller As Tears Go By. Set amidst Hong Kong's ruthless gangland underworld, marrying the pulp pleasures of gritty action drama with hints of head-rush romanticism. Days Of Being Wild is Wong's breakthrough sophomore feature and depicts a band of wayward twenty-somethings who pull and push apart in a cycle of frustrated desire, amidst a gauzy 1960s backdrop.

One of the defining works of nineties cinema, Chungking Express is a gloriously shot, unexpected charmer in which two heartsick Hong Kong cops cross paths. Its dark flip side is Fallen Angels, a dizzying city symphony charts the interlacing fates of a handful of urban loners.

Happy Together is an emotionally raw, lushly stylised portrait of a queer relationship in breakdown casts Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung as a couple traveling tumultuously through Argentina.

A consistent entry in myriad lists of the best films of all time, Wong's magnum opus is In The Mood For Love. Two neighbours in 1960s Hong Kong develop an intimate bond upon making a discovery about their spouses – a masterful evocation of romantic longing ensues. Imaginations run wild in its loose sequel 2046, complete with a dizzying time-hopping plot and a sci-fi twist, but no less of its predecessor's yearning.

All films have been beautifully restored for the big screen. Tickets are only £5 for Members, £8 general admission. Enjoy!
