The Ritzy in Brixton is marking the launch of its newly refurbished café bar and restaurant with an all-dayer on Saturday 20 September 2025, bringing together film, live music, art and community activities.

The refurbishment reimagines the ground floor with a bold new look inspired by the cinematic world of Pedro Almodóvar – vibrant colours, cultural fusion and emotional storytelling that reflect Brixton's energy, creativity and diversity. Subtle nods to Brixton's most famous son, David Bowie, are also woven into the design, reviving the eclectic charm that defines The Ritzy.

In the afternoon, we'll be kicking off the movies with our Starman teaming up with the puppet wizardy of Jim Henson in the '80s fantasy classic, Labyrinth. We'll be celebrating the vibrant influence Almodóvar on Bar '78 with his 2006 magnum opus, Volver then wrapping up our feature-lengths with 2023's exceptional rom-com that swaps LA for SW, Rye Lane returns to Screen 1 (where scenes from the movie were shot!).

Last but very much not least, we are so incredibly proud to be presenting The Collected Short Films of The Ritzy's Own. Featuring nine films made across five years, including the award-winning Score by director Noah Kean, tickets are just £5 with all proceeds going to our partner charity, Refuge.

From 12pm there will be free entry to the upstairs bar which will be hosting exhibits by local artists as well as family-friendy activities including...

  • Face painting, glitter station, colouring tables.

  • Free commemorative badges.

  • Tombola with cinema prizes, fundraising for Refuge.

  • Free-to-use photobooth all day.

Continuing late into the night, we have some truly unmissable live acts to catch whilst you enjoy a special Bowie-themed cocktail! Iconic drag queen B*tchtrice will adding a dash of glamour to proceedings. Ritzy staff tribute band The Band Who Sold The World will be performing our favourite Bowie tracks whilst singer songwriter ELIYAH delivers a set blending alternative R&B with bedroom pop. The party continues with DJ Chaos Yoga seeing the night out until 2am.

We'll see you there to celebrate this amazing new space at one of London's most beloved cinemas!
