Disabled Access

This page explains the facilities for people with disabilities, and is intended to assist you in planning your visit.

Advance Booking
Advance booking is always a good idea so that our staff can readily provide any assistance you require. Accompanying carers are eligible for a free ticket. We will happily reserve wheelchair spaces or seats in any particular part of the auditorium if this is helpful.

Customers with Limited Mobility
Screens 1 and 2 are accessible to customers with limited mobility, including wheelchair users. There are four wheelchair spaces in Screen 1 and two in Screen 2. Unfortunately Screen 3 is not accessible to wheelchair users, as entry is up a small number of steep steps.

There are steps up from the foyer into the bar inside the building. There is level access to the bar from the street through the Lochrin Place entrance.

Disabled Parking
If you're a driver or a passenger and you have mobility issues, you may be eligible for a Blue Badge. Further information on Blue Badges, including how to apply for one, can be found on the Scottish Government website.

With a Blue Badge you can park free of charge and without a time limit on street in Edinburgh.

  • In public and shared on-street parking bays;
  • On single or double yellow lines when loading is allowed;
  • In greenways parking places when parking is allowed;
  • In disabled parking bays.

Visually Impaired Customers
Guide dogs are welcome at The Cameo. If you wish to take a dog into a performance, please let us know when booking so we can arrange an aisle seat. Alternatively, your dog can be cared for by a member of staff for the duration of the performance.

Customers with Impaired Hearing
Certain performances carry subtitles, and these are clearly indicated in the programme. We also have a hearing induction system in Screen 1; please notify a member of staff if you wish to use this.

There is a fully accessible separate toilet for wheelchair users opposite the doors to Screen 1. There is an emergency call-point (the red hanging cord) inside should you need to summon assistance.

Customers who have a disability that means that they need a companion with them in the cinema can bring them to any Picturehouse Cinema for free.

You can sign up for a Carers Card which will automatically discount one of your tickets, and which you can use – without a booking fee – when buying tickets in person, online or by telephone. The card will also mean that you don’t have to explain your situation every time you visit the cinema.

Ticket prices for customers with disabilities are according to their circumstances (e.g. adult, Member or student); the free ticket applies to their companion. The card must be used in conjunction with a paid-for ticket or a Member’s free ticket.

All customers for 3D screenings – including those using free tickets – will need to buy a pair of 3D glasses. These can be reused if you keep them.

Signing up for a card is not required, but we hope it will make buying tickets easier. It is personal to you, and may not be used by other people.

To apply for a Picturehouse carer card, please take proof of eligibility to your nearest Picturehouse and a member of the team will set up your card. If you need additional information or advice please email or call our customer service hotline on 020 7326 2649

The eligibility criteria are kept under review and may be updated from time to time; currently, people who receive one of the following benefits are eligible:

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA);
  • Attendance Allowance (AA);
  • Blind Person Registration;
  • Personal Independance Payment (PIP)
  • Armed Forces Independant Payment (AFIP)

Additionally, limitations placed on Cinemas by their local licenses require children and young people under 8 years of age to be accompanied by a responsible person; consequently, applications for cards can only be considered for people who are 8 years of age or older.

Food & Drink

The Cameo cinema bar provides a calm, welcoming environment to discuss film, have a quiet read or make use of our free Wi-Fi. We offer great coffee and a chilled-out atmosphere. Children and babies are welcome until 8.00, with high chairs and a toy box for your use. We also allow dogs!

Our quality snack food is sourced from local businesses including Breadwinner, Lo Spuntino and Union of Genius, and our dips are made in-house. A bevy of soup, quiches, pizza slices and strombolis are served until 10.00pm, alongside a range of top-notch biscuits and cakes.

We are always adapting and updating our carefully selected range of Scottish and international beers and lagers, fine spirits, and 18 different still and sparkling wines. Recent additions include Pickering’s Gin, made just a mile away at the Summerhall Distillery, and draught beers provided by Williams Brothers.

We have a regular film quiz (usually on the third Tuesday of the month), and many groups and clubs host events in the bar. So if you’re after a social outing or just a good coffee on your own, we’ve got you covered!
