Cult film night BAR TRASH celebrates our 4th sensational year with our first Wednesday at Finsbury Park Picturehouse and our first ever documentary, Bill Morrison’s remarkable film about the explosive history of cinema, DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME (2016). One gimmick has thrilled audiences since the dawn of moving images: true life. From cautionary scenes of venereal disease and child birth in the classic exploitation films of the 1920s-40s, to the ‘mondo’ exploitation documentaries of the 1960s and ‘faces of death’ horror, audiences have flocked to true life filmmaking. So the first ever documentary at BAR TRASH had to be a GREAT one… We are stupidly proud to present Bill Morrison’s astonishing study of the explosive history of cinema itself: DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Morrison’s film tells the bizarre and true story of a lost collection of over 500 nitrate film prints found fizzing in the permafrost of a remote Yukon mining town. Restoring some of the unearthed footage — complete with its eerily beautiful ice damage — Morrison creates a kaleidoscopic social history of cinema itself. Settle back for this unique BAR TRASH celebration screening as Token Homo joins you in the audience to enjoy one of his favourite films of the last 20 years. Polite notice: We are showing DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME with subtitles from the best available digital source. /// BAR TRASH is a celebration of cult and curious cinema, hosted by queer film fanatic Token Homo and friends.
