What A Wonderful Family! - Japan Foundation Tour

On her birthday, Tomiko serves her husband Shuzo "divorce papers" as a birthday gift which throws a seemingly “happy family” into a turmoil. It wasn’t just Tomiko and Shuzo who have marriage problems but also their eldest daughter isn’t on good terms with her husband either.

However, in order to resolve the issue of divorce of Tomiko and Shuzo, the “family meeting” is held. The meeting was initially meant to be purely for adult family members but with Noriko, a girlfriend of Shuzo’s third son being forced to be involved and Shuzo being collapsed, the matter is going into an unexpected way.

The first comedy directed by master director YAMADA Yoji in 20 years since the end of the Man is Hard series received many Japanese academy awards in 2017. The comical family drama by Yamada’s accomplished hand explores issues that a modern family faces, depicting the human condition woven over the divorce turmoil of a mature couple.
