Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a series of cult and classic screenings handpicked by the Harbour Lights staff.

For July, team member Dom is taking us back to 1997 – and then even further back to the 70s – for Paul Thomas Anderson’s first masterpiece, Boogie Nights.

Inspired by the works of Scorsese, Anderson (who was only 26 when he made the film) made a huge impact with this exploration of the porn industry in the 1970s that filters the rise and fall of Raging Bull through the heady glamour and danger of GoodFellas.

The result was an Oscar-nominated hit and the first stand-out in a career that would go on to include Magnolia, There Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread. With a stunning cast cat includes Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Philip Seymour Hoffman and William H. Macy, the film gave Mark Wahlberg an early chance to shine and Burt Reynolds an award-winning career revival.

Fuelled by a propulsive energy and an amazing soundtrack, Boogie Nights remains an incredible cinematic experience.
