A one-day workshop for people interested in what horror says about the culture that created it, and how queer and trans experience can be translated into genre storytelling. The morning traces the American slasher from its 1960 precursors to the self-aware films of the 1990s, before groups build a slasher concept for the 2020s. The afternoon turns towards queer and trans horror, using film and literary examples to examine metaphor, bodies, space and transformation. Participants then develop a short horror idea of their own before the day leads into a preview of Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma at Picturehouse @ FACT. The workshop is open to anyone aged 18 or over with an interest in horror. No particular level of filmmaking experience is required.
