Aquamarine (20th Anniversary Screening)
Discover the true power of friendship in Elizabeth Allen's cult classic coming-of-age, as rarely screened as a mermaid sighting.
The morning after a big storm in the coastal town of Baybridge, teenagers Hailey (Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque) and Claire (Emma Roberts) find a mermaid in the pool. Little do they know that the charming, giddy creature called Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) has come to shore with a mission: to prove to her father, King Neptune, that love exists. With the help of her two new friends, Aquamarine learns more about the human world, thrift shopping, and having a crush on the most popular guy, Raymond (Jake McDorman), in a feminist twist of the mermaid film canon. Join us for a special screening to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary as a staple of peak girlhood. Bonus points for blue highlights and mermaid core attire, and if you guess what's the closest thing we have to magic, Aquamarine might just grant you a wish.
The screening will be introduced by critic and writer Savina Petkova.
