Brazil, 1977. An academic on the run attempts to reunite with his son in this audacious political thriller set against the background of the military dictatorship.

The central character, Marcelo, takes refuge in a safe house with others who also have secrets to hide, and clues about his past gradually emerge. Marcelo hopes to escape to a new life with his child but events soon escalate out of control. This intricate and beautifully shot film captures the vibrancy of city life with a memorable ensemble of characters. The diversity and humanity of ordinary people is celebrated, despite the threat of corruption and violence simmering beneath the surface.

The film scooped Cannes 2025 awards for director Kleber Mendonça Filho (Bacurau and Aquarius) and Narcos star Wagner Moura’s excellent central performance.
