DIR: CÉDRIC KLAPISCH. WITH: SUZANNE LINDON, ABRAHAM WAPLER, VINCENT MACAIGNE. FRANCE 2025. 124 MINS. FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
A group of distant relatives inherit a countryside home and unlock secrets from the past in a charming and inventive tale of parallel lives.
Following the reading of her will, descendants of Adèle Meunier are instructed to visit her Normandy cottage to sort through its contents. As the relatives uncover mementos from their unknown family history, the story shifts from the present to the late 19th century. Young Adèle leaves her rural home for Paris and finds a city brimming with creativity. Discoveries are made and challenges faced by all of the characters as the story moves between the two timelines.
Director Cédric Klapisch lovingly captures the energy of Paris during a golden period of cultural change. Suzanne Lindon is a delightful Adèle alongside a strong ensemble cast.
‘A thoughtful comic meditation on changing social mores over approximately 125 years.’ - Jonathan Romney, Screen International
