Rocks is a typical 15-year-old teenager living in East London with her family. She goes to school, has her group of best friends.
Until one day she returns back home from school to find her mother gone. In order to avoid being taken by care services, Rocks decides to hide the fact that she and her little brother are now on their own.
Balancing the drama with a playful tone, Rocks was developed collaboratively with its young cast.
Having previously directed Suffragette (2015), Sarah Gavron’s coming-of-age feature is a colourful ode to friendship and girlhood, and a touching tale of resilience.
The Cambridge Film Festival is presented by the Cambridge Film Trust, a registered charity widening access to cinema and supporting emerging talent through film, education and community programmes.
