DIR: SIMON STONE. WITH: ANDREW SCOTT, OLIVIA COLMAN, BILLIE PIPER, JOHNNY FLYNN, LUKE THOMPSON. UK 2026. 104 MINS.
Andrew Scott takes centre stage in a moving biopic depicting the tumultuous final months of a renowned British actor’s life.
Best known for his performance in Chariots of Fire, Ian Charleson is invited to play Hamlet in a prestigious 1989 National Theatre production, following the sudden withdrawal of Daniel Day-Lewis. It’s a momentous decision. Unknown to most people, Charleson is dying of AIDS. This film captures the magnitude of his achievement, and Scott (Pressure, Blue Moon, All of Us Strangers) is totally compelling in the central role.
Elsinore is a celebration of queer resistance, individual and collective creative expression, and the passion of someone who – against all odds – remains totally dedicated to their art.
‘Played with raw determination, grace and an almost overwhelming depth of feeling by Andrew Scott.’ David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter
