To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Satoshi Kon’s anime classic Paprika, and a brand-new English translation of its source novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, we’re thrilled to play host to a special screening of its 4K restoration, followed by a post-film panel discussion. Join us for a conversation chaired by writer and Ghibliotheque co-creator Michael Leader, with translator Helen O’Horan, editor Claire Ormsby-Potter, and Jennifer Coates, Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Sheffield, discussing the monumental impact of Paprika on two decades of genre storytelling. Copies of the new edition of Paprika will also be available to buy (and win!) on the night, courtesy of Gollancz. |
Dr. Atsuko Chiba works as a scientist by day and, under the code name ‘Paprika’, is a dream detective at night.
Atsuko and her colleagues are working on a device called the DC Mini – intended to help psychiatric patients, in the wrong hands it could destroy people's minds.
When a prototype is stolen, Atsuko and her alter ego spring into action to recover it, but it isn’t long until dreams and reality begin to intersect.
