Become a memberAfter co-starring – but never sharing scenes - in 1974’s The Godfather Part II, Michael Mann’s 1995 crime epic Heat finally gave iconic actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino the chance to face off against each other on screen. Based on Mann’s earlier television film L.A. Takedown, the film follows master thief Neil McCauley (De Niro) and his team, who have built up a reputation for pulling off audacious heists. When one ends in an especially violent manner, LAPD Detective Vincent Hanna (Pacino) is determined to bring them down, leading to a game of cat and mouse with each man’s unrelenting drive and obsessions pitted against the other’s. Featuring a huge ensemble cast including Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and William Fichtner, Heat quickly became a classic thanks to Mann’s immaculate craft and two leads at the top of their game.
