Step back in time to the days of yore at the Duke of York's with a series of films and special extras, all telling the story of the nation's oldest cinema.
Frequently cited as one of the greatest films – and the greatest musical - of all time, Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen’s beloved romantic-comedy, Singin’ in the Rain, takes us back to the transition from silent movies to the talkies at this Duke’s Days event.
Join us as we explore the introduction of sound to the cinema through the life and career of Marie Walcamp; a star of the silent movie. Whilst the “Dare-Devil Girl of the Movies” faced the very real consequences of the talkie-revolution, her portrait survives in a hidden corner of the Duke’s - living on as part of the cinema’s oldest decorations.
Historial extras and more details to be announced soon.
