Take an exploratory expedition into the past at our next Duke's Days event. We're delighted to welcome film historian, Frank Gray, to discuss what audiences would have been watching during the cinema's first decade, presented with newsreels from 1910-19.
For our main feature we present South, the rivetting documentary following Sir Ernest Shackleton's epic voyage to the Antarctic across 1914-16 shot by Frank Hurley. Originally released in 1919 and regarded as world's first documentary feature, the film presents the extraordinary efforts and extreme hardships faced by Shackleton and his crew to survive after their ship, Endurance, is trapped and lost to the ice of the South Pole.
Don't miss the BFI's stunning restoration from 2022 with a fantastic score composed by Neil Brand.
