Joe Pettitt Trio - Small Packages

Piano - Jim Watson

Bass - Joe Pettitt

Drums George Double

One of London’s most in-demand bassists, Joe has for many years had two parallel music careers…

As a sideman, Joe has worked and collaborated with all manner of artists, from Curtis Stigers, Clare Teal, The Puppini Sisters and Joe Stilgoe through to the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band, John Wilson Orchestra, Simon Spillett and Denny Ilett. As a session player, Joe has toured/recorded with Michael Bublé, Burt Bacharach, Noel Gallagher, Joss Stone, Rick Astley, Tony Christie and Michael Feinstein.

However, Joe is probably best known as leader of the LP Swing Orchestra for over 15 years. In this role he has presented and produced shows for Sky TV, including a Christmas Special with Mica Paris. He’s recorded and streamed a live concert from Abbey Road Studios as well as directing countless performances around Britain and beyond. Yearly dates at Cadogan Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Blackpool Tower Ballroom plus frequent plays on BBC Radio 2, presenting on JazzFM and a number 1 in the iTunes Jazz Chart have kept him very busy!

The Joe Pettitt Trio draws these two worlds together. One of the most experienced bandleaders around, Joe is now enjoying the creative freedom of the small band with his first love; the double bass.

Their upcoming album is a collection of tracks, usually heard in the Big Band tradition but now reimagined for a contemporary jazz piano trio. Working with arrangers Rob Barron, Matt Regan and the trio’s own Jim Watson, Joe has taken melodies known and loved by all and refreshed them for this new setting. Think Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington meet Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown with pinches of Brad Meldhau and Christian McBride.

For this new project Joe is joined by pianist Jim Watson (Manu Katché, Incognito, Guy Barker, BBC Big Band) and drummer George Double (Dame Shirley Bassey, Grammy Award-Winner Jack Jones, Art Themen, Paul Jones).
