While home sick in bed, a young boy is begrudgingly swept up in a fairytale read to him by his grandfather: the story of Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright), whose true love Westley (Cary Elwes) suddenly disappears, leaving her to become engaged to the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon).

But Westley soon arrives back on the scene and, along with his mismatched band of adventurers, sets off on a daring mission to rescue his beloved.
