In Peter Weir’s Oscar-nominated film, Jim Carrey stars as a man whose entire life is recorded for a TV audience of millions – all without him knowing. But a series of events and coincidences lead him to question the nature of his reality.
This screening is part of a series /Philosophy and Film/. After the screening there will be a short talk from Neil Williams, from the Philosophy Department at the University of Southampton on the philosophical themes in the film, followed by a Q&A period. What philosophical issues are raised by The Truman Show? How are those issues resolved in the film, and how are those same issues addressed by philosophers, past or present? These questions will be explored in the short talk and ensuing Q&A.
Also screening in this series are Rachel Getting Married (Mon 19 May) and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (Wed 4 Jun)
