HÄXAN With Live Score By Nick Carlisle

A legendary silent film from Benjamin Christensen, Häxan uses a series of striking vignettes to explore a bold scientific hypothesis: that the supposed witches of the early modern era suffered from the same ills as patients diagnosed with hysteria in the film's own time.

Through a series of striking vignettes, traversing various cinematic styles from documentary and essay film to horror and the avant-garde, Christensen's film itself is a witches’ brew of the scary, the gross, and the darkly humorous – making for an experience unlike anything else in the history of cinema.

We're thrilled to welcome musician Nick Carlisle, who crafted a new score for Häxan’s 100th anniversary in 2022 and has performed it across the UK ever since, creating what may be the definitive modern score.
