CFF: Non-Aligned - Scenes from the Labudovic Reels
12A 100 mins
Mila Turajlic is a Serbian filmmaker with a penchant to explore nations through their personal histories.
Non-Aligned is one part of her documentary diptych, Scenes from the Labudović Reels, based on unseen 35mm materials filmed by Stevan Labudović, the personal cameraman of Yugoslav President Tito.
In addition to the First Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961, where leaders from the newly-independent African countries came together in Belgrade, Turalic investigates the role of Yugoslavia in the 1960s liberation movements through the cinematic image.
Her project was also directly responsible for restoring footage from Algeria, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Mozambique, made for the countries’ own archives.
The Cambridge Film Festival is presented by the Cambridge Film Trust, a registered charity with a mission to foster film culture and education for the benefit of the public, in Cambridge, the Eastern region, and throughout the UK.
