Verschollen [lost without trace] A painter’s forensic recovery of her missing family…. a creative journey starts within the studio walls and becomes an act of painterly repossession of the family she never knew. Triggered by her mother’s late-life unburdening of memories of her formative years in pre-war Berlin, the painter's journey became a 25 year excavation: it re-enacts a piecing together of maternal testimony, traces and archival evidence to enter the lost world of German-Jewish life in Berlin, to reclaim something of the lives of the family who perished before she was born.
