We’re delighted to welcome the FIRST FILM CLUB back to The Ritzy for a special screening of Ben Wheatley’s directorial debut Down Terrace, alongside Julia Jackman’s short film The Riley Sisters. After the films, both directors will take part in a live discussion and Q&A chaired by FIRST FILM CLUB co-founder, author and critic, Hanna Flint.

Join us after the screening for a drinks reception sponsored by TRIPLE EXPOSURE, providing an opportunity to celebrate the filmmakers, connect over the films, and encourage future collaborations. Brought to you with the support of BFI NETWORK, awarding funds from The National Lottery.

DOWN TERRACE

For father and son Bill and Karl, the family business is organised crime – and after spending a few days in jail, they return home and realise they may have a rat in their midst. As they try to pick out the informant from a group that includes a corrupt politician (Mark Kempner) and an unpredictable hit man (Michael Smiley), Karl learns his girlfriend (Kerry Peacock) is pregnant and deals with his wife's anger, as well as his parents' disapproval. Set in Wheatley’s hometown of Brighton and starring real-life father and son Robert and Robin Hill, Down Terrace is a darkly hilarious sojourn into the gritty British underworld.

THE RILEY SISTERS

While Steve is desperate for his sisters to prove his innocence, Izzy and Jess are fighting to preserve their safe space, and their connection to each other is key. Starring Naomi Postawa, Rhiannon May and Bill Milner, this intimate family drama is a reminder of how powerful communication can be beyond the spoken word.
