Father’s Day – the fourth feature film from Rwandan director Kivu Ruhorahoza – is divided into three storylines. In one, struggling masseuse Zaninka (Médiatrice Kayitesi) grieves the loss of her son and distances herself from her husband; in another, small-time thief Karara (Yves Kijyana) drags his son into his life of crime; and one more story focuses on Mukobwa (Aline Amike), who grapples with whether or not to be an organ donor for her murderous father who she’s never loved. The theme of paternity and its power runs through each of the narratives, as clever connections between characters are revealed.
The Cambridge Film Festival is presented by the Cambridge Film Trust, a registered charity with a mission to foster film culture and education for the benefit of the public, in Cambridge and the Eastern region but also throughout the UK.
