Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it before: a vivid, visceral adaptation of Macbeth, Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood transports the medieval Scottish story of royal blood to the ghostly lands of feudal Japan, recruiting Toshiro Mifune for the role of the hardened warrior who rises violently to power. Pulling the strings behind him is his ruthless wife, who urges him to assassinate the country’s monarch and begins a chain of events responsible for a madness that takes hold of them both.
