Step back in time to the days of yore at the Duke of York's with a series of films and special extras, all telling the story of the nation's oldest cinema.
Take an exploratory expedition to the Duke of York's of the past at this month's Duke's Days event. We investigate what the cinema's first audiences would have seen on the big screen - programmes that reveal a glimpse of the life and times of the 1910s. For our main feature we present South, the rivetting documentary following Sir Ernest Shackleton's epic voyage to the Antarctic across 1914-16 shot by Frank Hurley.
Originally released in 1919 and regarded as world's first documentary feature, the film presents the extraordinary efforts and extreme hardships faced by Shackleton and his crew to survive after their ship, Endurance, is trapped and lost to the ice of the South Pole. Don't miss the BFI's stunning restoration from 2022 with a fantastic score composed by Neil Brand.
Historial extras and more details to be announced soon.
