The Windrush Caribbean Film Festival (WCFF) brings the stories of the Windrush generation and their descendants to life through the lens of film. Now in its sixth year, the festival connects audiences across the UK and the global diaspora through powerful storytelling that explores identity, migration, and belonging. www.windrushfilmfestival.com

The programme includes the acclaimed documentary Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande, celebrating the legacy of of the trailblazing British funk band whose music gained cult status in the US despite being largely overlooked at home. The film shines a light on their cultural significance as Black British pioneers in music.

The screening will also feature a selection of short films:

Remembering BRAFA, marking the 40th anniversary of the song that became Hackney’s answer to Live Aid, animated shorts courtesy of Film London’s FLAMIN Animations programme. Dédé (Ancestor) by Yasmine Djédjé-Fisher-Azoumé, an exploration of diasporic female identity through the lens of Ivorian folklore and feminine iconography, and Mother Tongue by Duncan Senkumba, a vivid journey through Uganda’s urban and natural landscapes that reflects on language, identity, and home.

Love Language by dir: Damien Nembhard dives deep into gritty social dynamics, told through the lens of modern-day love languages and emotional manipulation.  and Cocoa Butter Wishes a short film by the OYA Emerging Filmmakers Y6 Cohort, when a mysterious birthday gift, a jar of cocoa butter, turns out to house a Genie, an aspiring 20-something writer struggles to figure out what’ to wish for.

WCFF 2025 is presented in partnership with ALT A REVIEW,  multimedia platform founded by Joy Coker. ALT A REVIEW (www.alt-africa.com)  dedicated to amplifying  voices of Black, Brown, and minority ethnic creatives across arts, film, theatre, and beyond, in both print and digital.
