Pope Francis: A Man Of His Word

Director: Wim Wenders
Starring: Pope Francis, Joe Biden, Paul Ryan
Duration: 96 min

In 2013 Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, The Wings of Desire) was invited to make a film about the Pope. Wenders, who had a Catholic upbringing and later converted to Protestantism, was given extraordinary access to His Holiness and to Vatican footage of the current Pontificate. The Pope, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, is the first South American and the first Jesuit to hold papal office. This documentary - a personal journey - shows Pope Francis to be a person of uncommon integrity whether his messages are about death, social justice, immigration, ecology or the role of the family. Wenders’s surprising and refreshingly direct approach is fitting for a Pope who urges simplicity, and whose tenure has been characterised by humility and outspoken support for the world’s poor.
