TAPE Presents: Bruk OUT! + Dancehall After Party

For the past months, T A P E has been focused on screening films which in some way explore culture, identity and heritage. The August film is as bold as it is energetic and just in time for Carnival season, putting a spotlight on the Jamaican Dancehall culture as it brings together dancers and enthusiasts from around the world - Japan, Italy, America, Poland, Spain, and of course, Jamaica.

Bruk OUT! follows six Dancehalll Queens, powerhouses at the heart of this global phenomenon, as they prepare to battle it out in Montego Bay for the dancehall world's greatest trophy. Not only does this documentary present an intimate insight into the serious graft of this dynamic world, it also uncovers more personal struggles including body image, poverty and being criticised for hyper-sexual dancing seen by some as lewd but which they feel is empowering.

This directorial debut from Cori McKenna, which recently screened at Sheffield Doc/Fest, celebrates music, Caribbean and international culture, and its leading ladies all at once.

Following the screening, in a warm up to carnival weekend, get set to wine ya waist with D’Vo on the decks playing the best in old and new dancehall music. Plus more special guests TBA.
