Let's Shatter the Taboo
Beautiful Trauma presents Let’s Shatter the Taboo, an event taking place at The Ritzy cinema in Brixton, south west London, on Saturday 16 February 2019 to raise awareness about suicide and the importance of mental health.
This grassroots movement will focus on groups within the community who are not often targeted across wellness initiatives - including the working class, the BAME community, migrants and men - who are three times more likely than women to die by suicide in the UK.
In 2017 there were 6,213 suicides in the UK and Republic of Ireland - and yet it is still rarely discussed openly and honestly. Let’s Shatter the Taboo has been organised to help address this and encourage healthy conversations among young people about mental health.
DJ Milktray, award-winning motivational speaker and radio personality at ontopfm.net, will host the event and introduce a series of panellists.
Speakers include Don't Suffer in Silence founder Marcus Tisson and HuffPost UK journalist Nadine White, who will share their mental health experiences and provide a forum for those in attendance to ask questions.
Whilst the event has a serious message at its core, organisers want everyone to also have fun and be entertained by the spoken word, live music and refreshments in store.
Beautiful Trauma is an organisation founded by Marisa Mae who recently lost a friend to suicide. The aim is to hold frequent events that work towards shattering the taboo surrounding mental health in local communities. Following on from this will be a number of projects, devised to help tackle this problem through community groups, schools and colleges
Everyone is welcome and all will be given an opportunity to network in an inviting and non-threatening space.
Come and join us and let’s shatter the taboo!
