Folk Modern: Feat. Ady Johnson, Storywheel + More

Five acts are handpicked and curated by host Steve Folk, who is also a talented performer himself. There is no specific genre to the music he presents but it is always original, honest, thought-provoking and good! This month’s folk modern includes:

Ady Johnson
Suffolk born antique furniture restorer and musician Ady Johnson almost lost both his livelihoods after severing two tendons in his barre finger with a chisel. Thankfully he made a full recovery. Having already had success as lead singer with Hammond Organ-driven band FuzzFace, and gaining an Honours Degree in classical guitar performance, Ady decided to abandon the restoration trade and focus on his music career.
“…an ebullient, life affirming collection with a touch of kitchen-sink romanticism worthy of Ray Davies and a bluesy sound filtered through the uniquely English lens of skiffle.” - 8/10 Americana UK

Fantastic oud compositions of original songs & folk music from the British Isles with influences from the Middle East & North & West Africa. Keith Clouston first encountered the oud while living and working in Constantine, a city in the Aures Mountains, Eastern Algeria. He went on to study oud with Khaled Bessa at the Rachidia Music Institute in Tunis and then with a number of teachers in London including the Egyptian Essam Rashad, Palestinian Adel Salameh and Iraqi Ehsan Emam.
Since then Keith has recorded and toured as oud player and guitarist with world music diva Natacha Atlas and was featured on her French top 20 single 'Mon amie la rose’ and album 'Gedida' . Performing credits with Natacha include Shepherds Bush Empire, Queen Elizabeth Hall, ICA, Glastonbury Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Paris Olympia, ‘Later with Jools Holland’
