Lean On Pete

Director: Andrew Haigh
Starring: Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny, Charlie Plummer
Duration: 122 min

From the director of Weekend and 45 Years, Lean On Pete tells the story of Charley Thompson (Plummer), a shy and lonely teenager living with his down-and-out father Ray (Travis Fimmel) in the Pacific Northwest. With Ray struggling to provide financial stability, Charley takes it upon himself to search for a summer job. He lands work with cantankerous horse trainer Del Montgomery (Buscemi) and spends his days visiting low-stakes racetracks and caring for Lean on Pete, a racehorse put out to pasture. When Charley discovers that his new equine friend is destined for the knacker’s yard, he runs away with the horse under cover of darkness, into the great unknown to find a place the two of them can call home. A heartrending and affecting story, adapted from Willy Vlautin’s 2010 novel.
