“It'll be just like in the movies. Pretending to be somebody else.

Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a series of cut and classic favourites handpicked by the staff of Harbour Lights. This month, rather than a more traditional horror film for the Halloween month of October, Chloe’s chosen something haunting, dark, terrifying, unknowing – and occasionally beautiful. Beginning as an unwanted TV pilot, David Lynch's Mulholland Drive was reshaped into a film that’s now regarded as a modern masterpiece, with both Sight and Sound and the BBC have proclaimed it to be the greatest American film of the 21st century in separate polls. A seemingly simple tale of an aspiring actor (Naomi Watts in a role that propelled her to stardom) who forms a close relationship with an amnesiac (Laura Harring), the film cross cuts across vignettes, mysteries and characters that may or may not be connected, remaining defiantly Lynchian to the end - with all the surrealism, horror and dark humour that suggests. Lynch himself calls it “a love story set in the city of dreams”. We call it unmissable cinema.

Tickets only £8 / £5 Members.
