The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: Pride Month Late Show

This outrageously camp Australian comedy proved one of the hot tickets in Cannes in the year of its release and has since become a cult classic. Three Sydney showgirls with problems – Felicia, Mitzi and Bernadette – are invited to play a four-week cabaret engagement at a resort hotel in Alice Springs, in the middle of Australia’s red desert. It seems like the perfect opportunity to leave their troubles behind them, at least for a while, but the trip isn’t as straightforward as it seems: Felicia and Mitzi are drag queens and Bernadette is a transsexual, and meeting a man in a dress in the outback is not a normal occurrence. Naming the bus they are to travel in Priscilla, and cramming her with a gaudy assortment of frocks and stilettos, they set off with music blaring in the direction of the Outback. Along the way they break down, dress up, perform in unlikely places and encounter hilarity, hostility, incomprehension and acceptance.

The film will start at 10.30pm, but we invite you to arrive early for a PRISCILLA-themed bar quiz, starting at 9.30pm, and there are Phoenix Goody Bags to be won! Bar space is limited, and a film ticket does not therefore guarantee entry to the quiz. Please reserve your quiz space separately by emailing [email protected].

£1 quiz entry fee, (pay on the night,) with proceeds to our charity Refuge.
