The tale of the storm-tossed Pericles who, forced to flee his homeland, becomes a refugee at the mercy of the sea and strangers.
A tempestuous play on every level, Pericles is a tragicomic ‘late’ ‘romance’. Even its genesis was choppy and the play is now thought to be a collaborative effort between Shakespeare and the pamphleteer George Wilkins.
With episodes of riddles and the supernatural, and a compelling focus on family bonds and children, Pericles is a story of heartbreaking loss and touching reconciliation.
This new production is directed by Blanche McIntyre (Tartuffe, National Theatre; The Winter’s Tale, Shakespeare’s Globe). Cast to be announced.
