“I have the power!”
Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a monthly series of screenings handpicked by the staff of Harbour Lights. This month, bar supervisor Matt’s choice takes us from the planet of Eternia to 1980s New Jersey and back again in the big-screen adaptation of Masters of the Universe. Considered a flop on its initial release, the film has since become a beloved cult favourite with Academy-Award nominee* Frank Langella stealing the film with almost Shakespearean take on Skeletor as he faces off against Dolph Lundgren’s He-Man to become the most powerful being in the galaxy. Also featuring a young Courtney Cox and a great score by Bill Conti (Rocky), the film is well worth revisiting on the big screen as a reminder of how big and fun blockbusters of the time could be.
* Alas, not for this film
