A programme of three compellingly different ballets, highlighting the versatility of the company. Each is danced to a ravishing score.

CONCERTO by Kenneth Macmillan is one of the choreographer’s most difficult works, demanding synchronised technical virtuosity across the cast. Abstract but classical, set to Shostakovich’s second piano concerto, it has been described as an ‘essay in pure dance’.

Quite different is Frederick Ashton’s ENIGMA VARIATIONS, set to Elgar’s beautiful score. Studded with period detail in the set and costumes, it effortlessly conveys the everyday emotions of characters in an English Edwardian landscape.

Completing the trio is Petipa’s RAYMONDA, a work for many years unknown outside Russia. This grand nineteenth-century piece is choreographed to the music of Alexander Glazunov. The Royal Ballet perform the third act which contains the famous ‘Grand Pas Classique Hongrois’.

The star cast for the evening includes Natalia Osipova, Vadim Muntagirov, Francesca Hayward and Matthew Ball.
