Critics Central: Singin' in the Rain
A season of fresh films and classic cinema, curated by members of the Critics' Circle Film Section. For the latest screening, we welcome Evening Standard film critic Larushka Ivan-Zadeh who will introduce iconic technicolor musical Singin' in the Rain.
It didn’t win a single Oscar, yet when La La Land is long-forgotten we’ll still be Singin’ In The Rain. I remember I first dutifully watched it because I knew it was a ‘classic’, and being bowled over by how funny, irreverent and whip-smart it was. Boasting breath-takingly fancy footwork and surreal fantastical set pieces, this glorious, gossamer light love letter to Hollywood is simply one of the best musicals ever made.
