Simmering tensions between neighbours in an Icelandic suburb are brought to boiling point in this terse black comedy. Inga (Björgvinsdóttir) and her husband have a beautiful tree in their back garden which, for them, symbolises tradition and security. But it throws a shadow over the woman next door’s sunbathing spot and she wants it cut down. Foliage isn’t the only thing under threat. Inga’s son has moved back home having been thrown out by his wife for watching a pornographic tape of himself and a former girlfriend. His arrival only complicates the situation in his parent’s home, and family members, possessions and pets are all caught up in what escalates into a vicious conflict. A caustic and astute look at contemporary culture and the clash between old and new worlds.
