Starring: Matthias Schoenaerts, Connie Britton, Bruce Dern, Gideon Adlon, Josh Stewart
Duration: 97 min
Matthias Schoenaerts gives a quietly devastating performance in this powerful first feature from actress turned writer-director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre. In a prison compound in the state of Nevada, repeat violent offender Roman Coleman (Schoenaerts) is doing time for brutally attacking and injuring his wife. His psychologist (Connie Britton) prescribes an unorthodox method of rehabilitation: a state-mandated therapy programme in which prisoners are taught to tame mustangs – wild horses which live on the plains. Helped by fellow inmate Henry (Mitchell) and no-nonsense rancher Myles (Dern), the seemingly intransigent Roman makes progress as he discovers his own humanity through his relationship with the mercurial mustang. A vivid reexploration of the American West and a moving redemption story.
