WORKS IN PROGRESS: DENIM

Part of our June series of Edinburgh Festival previews at the Attic ...

Denim: Work In Progress

Drag supergroup DENIM was established by lead performer Glamrou (Amrou Al-Kadhi) at Cambridge University in 2010.

DENIM was the university’s first and only professional drag troupe, watched and celebrated by thousands of students over the years.

Since then, the DENIM girl band and their unique take on drag have been watched and appreciated by thousands, touring across the UK. They have performed with Florence & The Machine live onstage at Glastonbury.

The troupe is led by five singers and actors – The Denims; Glamrou La Denim, Crystal Vaginova, Electra Cute, Shirley Du Naughty & Aphrodite Jones.

DENIM invite the audience to revel in the liberation of their performances – a vibrant carousel of twisted pop classics and original songs.

The DENIMS have received praise from several cultural figures including Simon Amstell, Florence Welch, Keira Knightly, Mario Testino, Ian McKellen, and Stephen Fry who has tweeted that drag troupe DENIM are “fighting bigotry."
