An eccentric millionaire hides $3 million of gold somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, luring thousands out on a wild treasure hunt in search of riches and redemption.
In 2010, eccentric millionaire art dealer Forrest Fenn buried $3 million worth of treasure somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. Fenn published the secret to its location via a cryptic poem, which lured thousands out on a wild hunt to uncover the buried riches. Now, Fenn sits in his museum-like home plotting how to tease clue after clue in his treasure hunt, as throngs of dedicated searchers comb the Rockies. THE LURE meets an ensemble of these hunters as they match wits against Fenn, each driven by his or her own search for something more than just riches. This quixotic quest develops into an act of redemption for some, akin to a religious fervor. But is the treasure real, or a hoax perpetrated by a master manipulator?
This screening is followed by a Q&A with the films director Tomas Leach.
Half Way is an immersive documentary chronicling the experience of a homeless family living half way between homes. Told through the eyes of Daisy, as daughter and filmmaker, it offers a self-reflexive lens into both the lived realities and mental deterioration of a family living as hidden homeless during Britain’s exploding housing crisis. This film documents a rare opportunity where the line between filmmaker and subject is blurred: all at once we witness the joyful and hilarious moments of everyday family life, up against its inevitable struggles. What began as a therapeutic process during a disempowering situation became a mission to complete a film. Half Way has transformed into a critique of Britain's welfare system, its housing crisis and the facelessness of ineffective power from the viewpoint of a family living through it.
