Instant Family

Director: Sean Anders
Starring: Rose Byrne, Mark Wahlberg
Duration: 118 min

Setbacks and tears, but also laughter and warmth, abound in this winning comedy, where the hopeful message is that little is unresolvable. Pete and Ellie Wagner (Wahlberg and Byrne) are interesting in adopting a child but when they end up fostering the three children of a drug-addict mother, the couple face a rude awakening to the joys and tyrannies of parenthood. The film is set on its witty, sit-com course as social workers (Spencer and stand-up comedienne Notaro), guide the bright-eyed parents through the steps to becoming adoptive parents. Based on writer-director-producer Sean Anders’s own experiences of fostering children with his wife.
