Jeune Femme

Duration: 97 min

Léonor Serraille’s debut feature was the deserving winner of the Camera d’Or at Cannes this year. A vibrant, touching and funny portrait of Paula, an unstable and heartbroken young woman, Jeune Femme signals the arrival of an impressive new talent in Serraille. Equally as eye-catching is Laetitia Dosch in the lead role, breathing a vital energy into Paula, whose split from her photographer partner is the narrative catalyst in Seraille’s self-penned tale.

Prone to being her own worst enemy, Paula lugs her ex’s pet cat around Paris in a cardboard box, freewheeling but determined to get back on track in life. Attuned to both cinema as an art form and human experience in the modern world, Serraille hits the ground running with a film as urgent and insistent as the post-punk score that accompanies its attention-grabbing sequences.
